In a matter of mere hours ago it was announced by Apple Inc. that Apple Computer founder, Steve Jobs, passed away.
Mr. Jobs was certainly a American icon. People dressed like him on occasion, some attempted to mimic him, however, generally by failing in the end.
At 7:00 P.M., Eastern, Apple first announced that Jobs passed away with the following note:
Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.
His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.”
40 minutes later there was a follow-up note released by Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook. Mr. Cook had previously sent the following memo to employee’s of Apple Inc., and evidently decided to have it shared with the world, too. The memo read:
Team,
I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today.
Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.
We are planning a celebration of Steve’s extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories and condolences in the interim, you can simply email rememberingsteve@apple.com.
No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.
Tim
While surprising as it is that Jobs has passed away, he had been battling pancreatic cancer for some time now. Investors particularly will recall how he came to and from duties while being on medical leave not just on one occasion. Generally, each time AAPL jumped and rocked back and forth with each announcement from Apple of his medical leave only to stabilize eventually and climb back to where it had been.
While not being an avid fan of the Macintosh or even the iPhone for that matter, it’s difficult not to recognize, perhaps, a true “rock star” of the computer industry. Jobs made computing ‘cool,’ moreso than any other person and was an undeniable trend-setter.
From Ticker Report to the persons who rubbed shoulders and elbows with Jobs in the computing industry and had a fondness of him, to those who simply respected him due to his accomplishments, to the employee’s of Apple Inc., and most importantly his family, we wish you a happy and bright future in light of this unfortunate and tragic time. – Shane Hupp, Editor, Ticker Report.
